Activist, Business Owner, Ex-Trafficker, Advocate receives Pardon (Record Suspension) for charges 18 Years and 23 Years Ago
Hyun-June Leonard Ro recently
received a Pardon by the Parole board of Canada for drug trafficking offenses which
occurred 23 and 18 years ago. These two indictments from two decades ago were
largely based on a system which was viewed as being racially biased, along with
being charged for offenses which have now been decriminalized. The Public
Prosecution Service of Canada, the Parole Board and the Department of Justice
supported Leonard Ro Pardons application.
Hyun-June Leonard Ro’s 1st Indictment was 23 Years ago, in 1998
for 1pds of marijuana at U of T Scarborough, driving into Kitchener, while
making an illegal U-Turn on Fairway which garnished a 2-year sentence. 23 years
later marijuana has been decriminalized, thanks to advocacy work by individuals
like Marc Emery.
Hyun-June Leonard Ro’s 2nd Indictment- 18 Years ago starting on September 2, 2003 and culminated on August 26, 2004.
Project Ozzi was a Kitchener based indictment for Money Laundering and drug
trafficking offenses, to this day, he has professed that he was wrongfully
convicted by an overzealous, racially biased law enforcement agencies which had
significant problems historically for racial profiling suspects and a biased
approach to policing, whereby one suspect would be overtly targeted,
investigated, indicted and incarcerated, while others would be given a green
card to undertake the exact same criminal conduct, while claiming immunity from
prosecution.
Hyun-June Leonard Ro’s advocacy has seen the decriminalization of cannabis and
now advocacy thru lobbying activities with the Federal and Provincial
governments for all controlled substances. The decriminalization of cannabis
for the last 2 years and cannabis being made available for medicinal purposes
for the last 7 years has shown that the federal government approach to our drug
policy has failed. Substantive gains in the decriminalization of all controlled
substances thru lobby efforts of very well-known lobbyist such as Leonard Leo has
seen the legalization of hard drugs in the State of Oregon, United States of
America.
Since that time 2 decades ago, Leonard Ro has returned to University of Toronto
completing both his Economics/Sociology degree, then his post-grad degree
Master of Business Administration while working as a service worker for the
University of Toronto until 2014. Leonard Ro then went into the building trades
industry in 2016 and is currently developing non-profit, charity-based builds,
while designing various properties as a small-medium enterprise builder in
South Western Ontario.
Hyun-June Leonard Ro has recently been nominated for the Order of Canada in 2020 and was a recipient of the Anti-Crime Association Distinction Award in 2009- presented by Michaelle Jean and was the recipient of the CCRS Responsibility Award in 2009- presented by Dalton McGuinty
Hyun-June Leonard Ro would like to thank the Parole Board of Canada, the
Honourable Governor General, the Honourable Justice Minister and finally the
Director and Deputy Director of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, along
with the advocacy of Marc Emery, Jodie Emery for their support.
